European companies that want to expand into new markets consider the South American online gambling to be a ripe target. The only problem at the point is that South American countries have conflicting and confusing internet gambling policies. For example, Argentina consists of 23 autonomous regions which have 23 different online gambling legislation and regulations in place. Another problem is a shortage of understandable federal legislation. However, whereas the country’s online gambling legislation is in the works still, Argentina wants to legalize internet gambling in the region.

It is quite a big move forward for the region that has uncertain regulations with regard to online casino gambling at present. The recently planned legislation wouldn’t only provide Buenos Aires a clear position on online gambling, but would then let foreign internet casinos operate on the Argentinean gambling market.

Bwin tried to offer forms of online gambling in Argentina beforehand but the country’s restrictions has made the company postpone operations in the region till the issue is settled. And although Bwin has faced several problems from the direction of the regional authorities, some other internet casinos are already moving into the regional market. For example, the 888 Holdings Plc and Victor Chandler already offer online betting and casino services in Argentina.

At the present, the new legislation seems to allow online betting purposely, and a regional online lottery. Preliminary reports consider that the Intralot internet casino gambling group could get the first license to operate online betting in the country.
