The whole world has had to think over the meaning of the expression “illegal online gambling” during the past two years due to the uncertainty of the UIGEA. And even despite of the fact that all the politicians have expressed concerns about the UIGEA and have said about the effects that the act has on the international online gambling industry, there have not been any changes made to the UIGEA. The UIGEA is still a piece of mostly incoherent and protectionist act that do not allow foreign online gambling companies to operate on the online gambling market of the US. During the past few months a lot of public organizations, players and others have put pressure on Congress to refocus the UIGEA efforts on defining the definition “illegal online gambling” rather than the prior target at the development of enforcement regulations for the banning act.

Senator, Barney Frank managed to make some serious progress in order to make the politicians define what “illegal online gambling” is by means of the Payment Service Protection Act, HR6870. This act has recently passed through the House Financial Services Committee and soon is going to be examined in the House. Many in the internet gambling industry hoped that the House would examine the bill last week but because of the financial crises in the USA and the widespread debate about the $700 billion bailout bill were at the first place all the week.

The gambling ban has been a great debate over the past weeks and it is unlikely to pass easily through the House.
