New UIGEA Examination Forthcoming

According to com.Score Media Matrix research online gaming in the United States has risen by about 5% from this June, in spite of the current legislation. Approximately 12 million American citizens visit gaming sites on the Web. The US government, perhaps, will have to rethink its approach to online gaming, so this could be a big revenue earner for the federal government.

In spite of the unfriendly legislation, online gaming is in the top 10 of the fastest growing web categories in the USA. Though online gaming does not take the first place in the list, it is a steadily growing thing.

The Unlawful Internet Enforcement Clarification and Implementation Act has been submitted to Congress and will be tabled after congressmen will return from the summer recess together with other acts related to online gaming. It seems that this bill protects from prosecution under the UIGEA to internet casinos and betting sites. The bill excludes sports betting sites. They will exempt from prosecution only those internet gaming establishments which stopped taking business from Americans before 13 October, 2006. If the UIGEA Clarification Act is passed into law, famous online casino operators, such as Party Gaming and 888.com, whose customers were mostly American citizens before October, 2006, could save millions of dollars.

Whilst the UIGEA Clarification Act may be taken up by some as pro-online gambling, others are hoping the UIGEA will be overthrown or at least overhauled greatly.

Most of the celebrated cases prosecuted regarding the online gambling act have been sports related and someone might say that maybe the UIGEA is geared mostly towards the sports betting activities rather than online gambling.
